BIG NEWS: Bob Sicoli Joins the Bevans Group

Email Bob |
We are very excited to announce that the infamous Bob Sicoli, formerly of The Basket Bridge, has joined the Bevans Group as Account Executive. Bob will play a key part in introducing new clients to the Bevans Group’s broad range of marketing, design and web development services.
“You can still call me Basket Bob,” says Sicoli, “but look for a new hat, a new business card, and some new ideas on how to present your business.”
You will definitely see him around town. |

IDEA:
It is a popularity contest!

Email Ann |
Surprise! I was not a member of the in-crowd in high school. I hung out with a variety of very fun, relatively nerdy kids (you know who you are). We were the ones who didn’t much care whether we were popular or not, but mostly because we never understood the rules.
There is a way to exist on the fringes of popularity. It’s not a comfortable place to be, but if you’re into that sort of thing, I understand there are rules you can follow. During my teenage years, these rules included applying copious amounts of hairspray and acting like you didn’t care about anything. |
Luckily, this article isn’t about that kind of popularity.
If you’re trying to increase traffic to your website, you want to think about a different kind of popularity: link popularity.
The rules of link popularity are simple: the longer the list of sites that link to you, the more popular you are. It’s like saying this: the longer the list of people who have you saved in their cell phones, the more popular you are. Is that a rule? It should be.
Anyway, this matters because all this talk about linking to other sites is a little bit short sighted. In reality, it doesn’t matter how many sites you link to. What matters is how many sites link to you.
Consider offering links to your clients or vendors, but insist on a reciprocal link. That’s where the money is.
Other ways to get more popular? Start a blog. Write and distribute articles online. Comment everywhere you can. Enter your web address every time. You are building a network of links that all point back to you.
How’s that, Mr. Popular?

GIVE BACK:
PFLAG Silent Auction
Here’s an IDEA for 2006: think about how you can give back to the community while promoting yourself!
The Bevans Group has donated an Identity Package to the DC chapter of PFLAG in support of their annual Gala Dinner and Silent Auction on March 11, 2006 at the Capitol Hill Hyatt Regency near Union Station. PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a volunteer-based organization promoting the equality and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons, their families and friends through:
- Support to cope with an adverse society
- Education to enlighten an ill-informed public
- Advocacy to end discrimination and secure equal civil rights.
They provide counseling and support to help the loved ones of gay people develop coping strategies as well as education to youths and many others who are struggling with the coming out process. Their mission is far from political; it’s about keeping families and friends together.
Please consider donating an item to the PFLAG Silent Auction by visiting http://metrodcpflag.cmarket.com. If you cannot donate an item, please visit the auction site that goes LIVE on February 13 th and bid on an item to support PFLAG. You can also visit this site to either make a donation to PFLAG or buy a ticket to the gala itself! Learn more about PFLAG DC at www.pflagdc.org.
