IDEA: Let it go.

Email Ann |
It’s Monday morning, and I’m enjoying the sounds of motorcycles rumbling down Main Street and the clean smell of early spring. I tell myself that it would be better if I came up with a different IDEA, but in the end, there’s only one that matters.
The Mouth was in town on Saturday.
I could just end it there, but I fear some of you might require an explanation. |
I am in love with music. The eldest daughter of a music teacher and church organist, I was raised an orchestra geek. I was and am a ‘cellist. I also took up guitar a few years ago. When I’m not with a client or working on a client project, odds are I’m either playing or listening to music. And one of my favorite bands is Cowboy Mouth of New Orleans, Louisiana.
I go to see Cowboy Mouth at least once a year when they come to the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. If I’m lucky, they also stop by a club in Baltimore, or maybe even the Recher in Towson. Their shows are legendary, and not for the faint of heart – a rock concert, backwoods revival and total-body workout all rolled into one. They ride around the country year after year proclaiming one simple message: Let it go.
I consider my annual Cowboy Mouth experience a kind of reset button. No matter how hard things get, I can always count on this band to bring me back to basics. In their own characteristic style, they remind me that it’s up to me to decide how I want to live my life. That I don’t have to be dragged down by circumstance. That I can choose strength, and gratitude.
Did I mention they’re from New Orleans?
Today I share Cowboy Mouth’s message with you. Consider this: if a group of musicians from New Orleans can keep life in perspective after everything that’s happened, maybe you can too.
Isn’t it great to be alive?
